MAIN CURRICULUM

Child’s early years are a time of remarkable growth, when children are experiencing rapid development, learning new skills, and progressing steadily toward physical, linguistic, and social-emotional milestones.

Guiding your child through this journey is both a privilege we value and a responsibility we take seriously. With that in mind, our curriculum provides intentional guidance and rich experiences that move children along that journey by building upon individual strengths and talents.  Our bilingual cross-cultural curriculum is designed to engage children in active learning that prepares them for school while helping them achieve their individual potential. It includes curricular elements that cross all age groups, such as Language Works, Math Counts, Science Rocks, ArtSmart, Our World and Well Aware. Our curriculum utilizes Russian and English languages effectively to target the needs of our bilingual children. 

Categories in our curriculum are broken down by age:

1. Toddler (2-3 year olds)
2. Preschool (3-4 year olds)
3. Kindergarten Prep (4-5 year olds)

It is further divided into sections detailing the specific content areas of learning, including:

Our approach to early childhood education is quite simple: we target individual needs of every child. We work with children where they are and provide them with the skills and support they need to grow.  When you look in one of our classrooms, you’ll see children playing together, working on projects with teachers and assistants or independently, learning to read, practicing social skills, and having fun.

If children have special needs, they often require additional support as they achieve their early education goals. For this reason, we have put together an interdisciplinary team of experts to provide any needed assistance as your child grows and learns, including:

• Speech/Language Therapist
• Classroom teachers certified in special education and ABA trained
• 2 ABA-trained teacher’s assistants
• Board Certified Behavioral Analyst.

OUTDOOR/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Young children behave the way they feel. Toddlers are notorious for this, expressing everything they feel through their actions. The direct relationship between a child’s physical health and social, emotional, and cognitive achievements makes it crucial to ensure he feels strong, healthy, and well-nourished every day. Growing up healthy also requires safe and age-appropriate opportunities for physical activity in an environment that builds good habits and positive attitudes. At Lighthouse Daycare Center we provide such an environment, enabling children to gain an understanding of how their bodies work, what they need, and how to protect them.  Our huge 2,000 square foot outdoor space is designed to provide children with rich learning experiences that will help them develop strong bodies, become self-aware, and lay the groundwork for a lifetime of healthy habits.

TRIPS

The following trips are planned as a part of the curriculum:

• Prospect Park Zoo
• Botanical Garden
• NY Aquarium

In addition, we are planning to host monthly interactive group lessons for children by inviting NATURE COMPANY with small live animals!
